UNDERFLOOR HEATING INSTALLATION

There are two types of underfloor heating available:

Wet

Wet Systems or Hot Water Systems take water from your boiler and pump it around the rooms in which your system is installed. The rubber pipes used are continuous and so there is little opportunity for them to leak and thus mean little to no maintenance. Although these types of systems can be more costly to install, they are a much more cost-efficient system to run and will save you more in over a greater period of time.

Dry

Dry Systems include a series of mats that are ‘hooked’ into thermostat of your home and powered by the mains supply. Flooring is then laid on top of the system. While these systems can be cheaper to install, they can cost up to 40% more to heat up your home.

• Efficient – Underfloor heating is one of the most efficient ways of heating a room or your entire home. Heating is distributed evenly and there are no draughts or windows to compete with.
• Comfort – In rooms such as your bathroom, these systems provide an ultimate comfort to you when you are walking barefoot.
• Hidden – Being underfloor, your heating system is aesthetically pleasing as it is out of the way, it can also be a great space saver for a smaller area.
• Luxury – Underfloor heating is considered a luxury and can add value on to your home.

INSTALLATION METHODS

When it comes to underfloor heating installation, there are three main methods used:

Suspended Floor

When installing underfloor heating in a suspended fashion, the system is inserted between the joists of a floor. As timber is a good insulator of heat, this method must be thought through before installation, however, preventative matters can be put in place to assist with making this an efficient option.

Overlay Floor

A series of tiles that allow us to affix the pipe work in the correct fashion. The system will give an output of up to 70watts per sq meter. Finally, the flooring of your choice can be laid over.

Solid

While it is the trickiest method of installation, it is still possible to install underfloor heating systems within a solid floor. However, this is usually reserved for new builds as essentially the floor needs to be completely rebuilt.
